I hope your October musical project goes well.
some shows you should look into:
SHE LOVE ME and GUYS AND DOLLS: these two shows are considered two perfect musical comedies.
CANDIDE, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG and ALLEGRO: all are very interesting shows written by fine composers that seem to not die and contain books that are often re-written.
WEST SIDE STORY, SWEENEY TODD, and PORGY AND BESS for their integration of legit/operatic musicality and scores into the musical theatre world.
SHOW BOAT, OKLAHOMA!, WEST SIDE STORY (again), and COMPANY for their landmark statuses and influences on the musical theater world.
HAIR, RENT, and SPRING AWAKENING for the integration of popular music into the musical theatre canon.
GYPSY and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC for their flawless books.
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE for its complexity and intricacy.
